Shotcrete Research at Laval University

By Wendy • July 19th, 2011

Palmetto Gunite Construction Company aided two graduate students in their master’s and doctoral, shotcrete research which was performed at Laval University in Quebec City, Quebec. Will and Robert Snow were sent, along with local, donated materials, to perform the research in Laval’s Civil Engineering laboratories. Dry mix test panels were shot wit the donated materials. Will Snow provided his experience as an A.C.I. Certified Nozzleman to aid in the shooting of shotcrete panels. Test panels were shot at a constant air flow from different distances in order to determine how possible changes in methods could affect the quality of the shotcrete. The different combinations were also subjected to rebound tests to determine how the distance and air flow can change the amount of material, as well as the size of the aggregate, that ultimately forms the in-place shotcrete.
