Repairing Historic Storm Drains Beneath Charleston’s Streets

In another project, our team worked beneath the historic streets of Charleston to repair an aging storm drain system. To access the structure, we set a manhole that allowed our crew to safely reach the storm drain for repairs.

Once access was established, we installed structural shotcrete inside the storm drain to restore and reinforce the aging concrete while maintaining its original form. This process helps stabilize the drain and extend its life without requiring a complete replacement.

Charleston’s underground infrastructure plays a critical role in protecting the city from flooding and heavy rain. Many of these systems have been in place for decades, and repairs like this help ensure they continue functioning properly while preserving the historic design.

Strengthening the Past for the Future

Projects like these highlight the value of shotcrete as a solution for repairing and reinforcing aging structures. Whether we are working on historic homes or underground drainage systems, our goal is always the same: strengthen the structure while preserving the history behind it.

In a city like Charleston, where history is part of everyday life, it’s rewarding to know that our work helps keep these structures standing strong—just as they have through the test of time.
