Morris Island Lighthouse Foundation Stabilization

December 6, 2022

The Morris Island Lighthouse was built in 1876 on Morris Island just south of the Charleston Harbor. Since its construction, erosion reshaped the barrier island, leaving the lighthouse approximately a third of a mile off the coast of Morris Island. Palmetto Gunite installed sixty-eight (68), senty-five (75) ton micropiles to a depth of sixty-five (65) feet. Despite the challenges of the unique environment present on the project, Palmetto Gunite ferried labor daily to the site and was able to install the piles ahead of schedule.
